Three Flights Depart Israel To Bring Uk Nationals Home

Three UK Government facilitated flights have departed Israel for the UK and Cyprus, with more expected to follow in the coming hours. These flights are part of the UK’s efforts to assist vulnerable British nationals who wish to leave the region. In addition to the flights, two UK Government Rapid Deployment Teams (RDT) and British Red Cross responders have been deployed to provide support to those in need.

The UK is also working closely with Israeli air controllers and the air industry to maintain commercial air links and explore various transportation options. Although commercial flights are currently limited, a few routes between Israel and Europe, including the UK, remain open.

To ensure the safety and well-being of British nationals in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the Government has advised them to register their presence with the Foreign Office. By doing so, they will receive the latest updates on departure options and security updates. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) continues to advise against all travel to certain parts of Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and against all but essential travel to other areas.

James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, emphasised the UK’s commitment to supporting British nationals in Israel and Gaza following the recent terror attack by Hamas. He urged all British nationals to follow the advice provided by the government and register their presence to ensure effective communication.

Efforts are also underway to facilitate the departure of British and dual nationals, as well as their spouses and children, from Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. The Prime Minister has discussed the situation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and the Foreign Secretary is in contact with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry regarding this matter.

The Israeli military has issued an announcement stating that the entire population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza should relocate to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours. British nationals in Gaza have been advised to follow this guidance and have been notified by the FCDO to remain alert in case the crossing opens.

The UK continues to advocate for unimpeded humanitarian access to civilian populations in the region. It is crucial that vital humanitarian supplies, including food, water, and medical resources, reach innocent civilians for their survival.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Defence deployed significant support to the region, including RAF surveillance aircraft and two Royal Navy ships. These measures aim to support regional stability and prevent further escalation of the situation.
