UK Evacuates Brits from Israel and Gaza Amid Rising Tensions
Three UK Government flights have left Israel, ferrying vulnerable British nationals to safety in the UK and Cyprus. More flights are on the way as part of a major evacuation effort. Alongside these flights, two UK Rapid Deployment Teams and British Red Cross crews are on the ground providing urgent aid.
Government Steps Up Support as Conflict Escalates
With commercial flights severely restricted, the UK is working closely with Israeli air traffic control and the airline industry to keep vital transport links open. A handful of routes to Europe, including to the UK, are still operating.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is urging all Brits in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to register with them immediately. This ensures they get the latest updates on travel options and security alerts. Travel advice remains strict, warning against all travel to some areas and non-essential travel to others.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: “We are deeply committed to supporting British nationals in Israel and Gaza. Please register with the government and follow our advice closely.”
Urgent Talks and Evacuation Efforts at Rafah Border
Crucial efforts are underway to evacuate British and dual nationals, plus their families, from Gaza via the Rafah crossing. The Prime Minister has held talks with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, while James Cleverly keeps close contact with Egyptian officials.
The Israeli military ordered all Gaza residents north of Wadi Gaza to move south within 24 hours. Brits in Gaza have been told to heed this order and stay alert in case the border crossing opens.
Humanitarian Access and Military Support Ramped Up
The UK is pushing hard for unimpeded humanitarian aid, demanding vital food, water, and medical supplies reach trapped civilians.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has deployed RAF surveillance aircraft and two naval ships to the region. These steps aim to stabilize the situation and prevent further violence.
