Disturbing Child Sex Crimes Caught on Camera

Jonathan Martin, 35, filmed himself sexually assaulting a young boy and coaxed children abroad into online sexual acts. Kent Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team swooped on Martin after spotting indecent images he uploaded in May 2022.

Shocking Evidence Found in Swanscombe Raid

During a search at his Swanscombe home, officers uncovered hidden mobile phones and a tablet concealed under a kitchen kickboard. When police arrested Martin in July 2022, he threw a laptop off his balcony in a desperate attempt to destroy evidence.

Further searches revealed phones stashed inside cereal boxes and a toaster. Investigators unearthed hundreds of vile videos and images showing Martin abusing a young child—who has since been safeguarded thanks to the police’s quick work.

International Hunt Protects More Victims

Martin’s vile online chats with children as young as 10 involved urging them to send explicit pictures and meet up. He even arranged to meet a child in a park but was late, and the child left.

Kent Police joined forces with Homeland Security Investigations in the US and INTERPOL to track down and protect victims across the globe, including in America and Finland.

Locker Packed with Horrific Material

  • 162 videos found, with 59 in the most serious Category A
  • 1,095 indecent images, including 175 Category A

Charged with 32 offences including rape, sexual assault and making indecent images, Martin pleaded guilty to all but two. On 6 November 2023, he was hit with a 10-and-a-half-year jail term at Woolwich Crown Court, plus an additional year on licence.

He’s also on the sex offenders register for life and slapped with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Police Praise Courage of Victims, Warn of Online Dangers

“Jonathan Martin is a very real danger to society and would have abused more children if not caught,” said Detective Constable Michelle James.

“I commend the child victim for their bravery in speaking with investigators.”

“This case is a stark reminder that the online world is public and risky.”

Detective Inspector Robert Grieve added: “Kent Police works hard with partners to catch offenders exploiting children online. This crime knows no borders, but neither does our determination to protect kids.”

Top Safety Tips for Parents

  • Enable parental controls on devices. Ask kids to share passwords and profiles honestly.
  • Watch for mood swings, secrecy, and changes in online habits or friendships.
  • Regularly check privacy and location settings, especially after app updates.
  • Encourage strong passwords with random words, capitals, numbers, and symbols.
  • Warn children about the dangers of sharing private info online—it could fall into the wrong hands.
