A woman has been left with critical injuries after being struck by a lorry on A2 Shooters Hill Road near Greenwich Park early on Wednesday morning, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The incident occurred just after 7am, and emergency services were quickly on the scene. The pedestrian, whose identity has yet to be released, suffered severe chest, head, and leg injuries.
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called at 7:15 am to the scene of the accident. They dispatched an extensive team, including an ambulance crew, two paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, members of the Hazardous Area Response Team, and London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes,” an LAS spokesperson stated. “We treated a patient at the scene for chest, head, and leg injuries and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
As of now, there have been no arrests in connection with the collision, and the Metropolitan Police have not provided further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
The A2 Shooters Hill Road has been closed between Prince Charles Road and Charlton Way as the investigation into the collision continues. This closure has led to heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, including Blackheath, Deptford, Greenwich, and Lee Green.
Early reports suggest that the collision may have occurred near the pedestrian crossing on Shooters Hill Road, a key route connecting Blackheath to Duke Humphrey Road and the iconic Greenwich Park.
This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another serious incident in which a 77-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a bus near Tooting Broadway Tube station last Friday.
The Metropolitan Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The current traffic disruptions are expected to continue until the road is reopened, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.
