In a distressing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, 35-year-old Jamie Goose of Barnsley has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of violent offences, including rape and non-fatal strangulation. The sentencing took place at Sheffield Crown Court on November 15.
The court heard that on April 24, 2023, Goose bombarded the victim’s phone with threatening messages and made menacing phone calls, leaving her in fear for her safety. Later that evening, he brazenly entered her home by breaking through the rear patio door. Armed with an axe and knife, Goose subjected the victim to a four-hour ordeal filled with threats and abuse.
Goose then followed the victim upstairs, where he proceeded to strangle her and continued to verbally assault her. He relentlessly pursued her throughout the property, eventually committing the heinous act of rape, callously telling her that she “deserved to be treated like that” before making his escape. Following his departure, he sent a text message to the victim, further exacerbating her distress.
On October 11, 2023, Goose pleaded guilty to rape, non-fatal strangulation, and possession of an offensive weapon at Sheffield Crown Court.
Detective Constable Alice Gilbert, who played a vital role in the investigation, commended the victim for her immense courage and thanked her for her unwavering support.
