Man Charged with Murder After Grays Fatal Incident
A man has been charged with murder following the death of 19-year-old Ashton Rowbotham in Grays, Essex. The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of Friday, October 6, near New Road.

Police arrived to find a serious disturbance had taken place, leaving Ashton critically injured. Despite urgent medical efforts, he sadly died at the scene.
Connor Knight Charged with Murder
On the same day, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and later released on bail. Now, Connor Knight, 21, of New Road, Grays, has been formally charged with the murder of Ashton Rowbotham. Knight is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 23.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, leading the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate probe, said the charge marks a key step forward in the case. He assured the public the team remains committed to uncovering the full circumstances of Ashton’s death.
“Our investigation continues in full force, and we are working tirelessly to gather every relevant detail,” DCI Wood said. “Ashton’s family will be kept updated and fully supported throughout this process.”
