Child Abuser Shaun Hewer Jailed for Nine Years in Gosport
Shaun Anthony Hewer was slammed with a nine-year prison sentence at Portsmouth Crown Court on Tuesday, 5 December. The Gosport man, previously found guilty of five offences, must also spend an additional year on licence after release.
Hewer’s Horrific Abuse Spanned Over a Decade
The vile crimes happened at a Gosport address between 1978 and 1989, when the victim was just four years old, continuing until she turned 16. Hewer stole the girl’s innocence and traumatised her for years.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery as Justice is Served
Police Staff Investigator Nikki Ginn from the Fareham & Gosport District Investigations Team paid tribute to the victim’s courage. She said:
“First and foremost, I would like to praise the victim in this case for the bravery she has shown in ensuring this child abuser has been brought to justice.”
“After more than 40 years of having to deal with what Hewer did to her, she has now seen him put behind bars, where he belongs.”
“While I know this result won’t rid her of the memories, I hope it allows her to move forward knowing he can no longer harm other children.”
“This sentence sends a clear message to offenders: no matter how long ago the crime, we will work tirelessly to bring you to justice.”
Support Available for Victims and Witnesses
Hewer must serve at least two thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release.
