Ipswich Predator Jailed for 21 Years Over Brutal Attacks

A 25-year-old Ipswich man has been locked up for 21 years after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against two women. Adiley Pires was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 20 December, despite refusing to appear in court.

Horrific Attacks on Vulnerable Victims

Pires, from Kensington Road, Ipswich, was found guilty after a nine-day trial of two counts of attempted rape, one sexual assault, and one common assault. The offences happened in Ipswich, targeting two separate victims.

The attacks took place on 17 October 2021 and 8 December 2022. Pires admitted the assault by beating but denied the rest. The jury wasn’t having it and found him guilty on all counts unanimously.

Chilling Details of the Crimes

The first victim, an 18-year-old woman, was walking home along Ipswich waterfront near the Foundry, The Mill apartment complex when Pires approached her in the early hours of October 2021. He tried to engage her in conversation before groping her and chasing her into a courtyard.

He pushed her into a flower planter and tried to lift her dress. The woman screamed loudly, grabbing the attention of residents who shouted from balconies. Pires fled the scene.

CCTV showed Pires watching the victim leave a nightclub and following her across the area. A media appeal helped identify him, leading to his arrest six days later.

The second victim, a 17-year-old girl, was targeted on a river towpath near Tower Mill Road. Pires grabbed her from behind, put her on the ground, covered her mouth, and punched her while pulling at her leggings. The girl fought back and called for help, causing Pires to flee once more.

Police Praise Victims’ Bravery and Public Support

“Adiley Pires is a predator. He preyed on lone females who were simply trying to walk home after a night out and our streets are now undeniably safer with him locked up,” said Detective Inspector James Cassedy.

“Both victims showed incredible bravery to fight back and help bring him to justice. Members of the public also played a vital role by intervening and supporting the victims until police arrived.”

“Suffolk Constabulary will never tolerate sexual violence and will continue working tirelessly to catch offenders.”
