In a recent ruling at Oxford Crown Court, Kojo Ritchie, a 36-year-old man from Oxford, received a jail sentence of one year and 10 months. Ritchie, residing in the Cowley area at Rymers Lane, faced charges of assault, affray, and malicious communication, to which he pleaded guilty.
The incident unfolded on Friday, July 7, when the victim reported receiving intimidating text messages from Ritchie. Later, it was revealed that the same day, she had also been physically assaulted by Ritchie in Bullstake Close, Oxford. The assault was followed by a series of menacing messages sent to the victim’s mobile phone.
Upon receiving the complaint, Thames Valley Police promptly intervened, ensuring the victim’s safety and support throughout the investigation and subsequent court proceedings. Ritchie was located by police officers the day following the assault and was formally charged on July 9.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Richardson, speaking on the case, emphasized the police’s commitment to the protection of victims and the pursuit of perpetrators in crimes against women and girls. He reassured that Thames Valley Police have specialized officers trained to support victims of such crimes.
DS Richardson urged anyone who is a victim of similar crimes or knows someone who might be, to come forward and report to the police. He highlighted that victims could reach out to the police through various channels, including the force’s website, calling 101, or visiting a police station.
The sentencing of Kojo Ritchie serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of violent and intimidating behaviour and reinforces the importance of reporting such incidents to ensure safety and justice.
