Ten Drivers Caught in Major Road Safety Crackdown in Kent
Local cops teamed up with the Kent Special Constabulary to hit the streets hard on Wednesday 20 December 2023. The target? Dangerous driving hotspots in Folkestone and Hythe.
Road Checks Target Trouble Spots After Resident Complaints
Officers set up road checks at key locations, including Sandgate Hill, Princes Parade, Cheriton Road, and The Leas. These areas were flagged by locals worried about road safety.
Speeding and Seatbelt Fails Lead to Reports
The crackdown saw ten drivers reported for offences:
- Four caught speeding
- One using a mobile phone behind the wheel
- Five driving without seatbelts
One driver blasted down Princes Parade at a reckless 60mph in a 40mph zone. Another was spotted at 39mph on The Leas, where the limit is just 20mph.
Police Warn: Drive Safe or Face the Consequences
Sergeant Kevin Marsh from the Folkestone and Hythe Victim Based Crime Team said: “Besides reporting ten offenders, we also stopped another 18 drivers and passengers to discuss safety issues like seat belt use, vehicle condition, speed, number plates, and mobile phone use.”
“This campaign isn’t just about handing out fines — it’s about making people think twice before they get behind the wheel or hop on a motorbike. Stay alert, be aware of the road, and always check your vehicle before travelling to keep everyone safe.”
