Violent Camberwell Protest Sees Eight Arrested
A peaceful protest in South London’s Camberwell turned ugly today, ending with eight arrests. The Metropolitan Police (MPS) swooped in after violence broke out on Camberwell Road near The Lighthouse Theatre.
Police Injured as Protesters Go Rogue
Roughly 50 demonstrators outside a private venue clashed with officers. Four cops were hurt during the chaos, with one rushed to hospital but later released.
Footage shared on social media shows some protesters smashing riot vans with sticks and other objects, escalating the disorder.
Section 35 Dispersal Order Imposed
Officers from Southwark Police | Central South BCU moved quickly to disperse the crowd. They issued a Section 35 order, allowing them to break up any gathering likely to cause anti-social behaviour.
Police Hunt Further Offenders
The Southwark Police team posted on social media:
“We are aware of footage being shared online. This will be investigated, alongside other evidence, to identify anyone else who may have committed criminal offences.”
The MPS confirmed arrests targeted individuals outside a private event, following reports of violent disorder, criminal damage, carrying offensive weapons, and assault on emergency workers.
