UK and US Launch Second Strike Against Houthi Missile Sites in Yemen
The United States and United Kingdom have joined forces again to hit Houthi military targets in Yemen. US officials confirmed this second wave of strikes focused squarely on Houthi missile sites, aiming to curb attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.
Targeting Iranian-Backed Militias
This latest operation follows earlier joint UK-US air raids against over a dozen sites linked to the Iranian-backed Houthis. The coordinated effort is a direct response to recent Houthi-backed assaults on naval and merchant vessels.
Prime Minister 1 and US President Joe Biden have been in talks about the ongoing attacks. Discussions also covered efforts to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, showing the high stakes involved.
Precision Strikes Under Cover of Night
The initial and current strikes were carefully planned to avoid civilian casualties, with all operations conducted overnight. Yemeni news agency SABA reported that the first round of attacks hit major areas including Sanaa, Sadah, Hodeidah, Taiz, and Dhamar.
The Houthis responded with promises to retaliate, claiming casualties in their ranks.
Foreign Secretary Labels Houthi Actions as Terrorism
Lord Cameron, the UK Foreign Secretary, branded Houthi operations as “effectively terrorist attacks.” He insisted that the Red Sea must be secured to prevent more assaults that threaten global trade and maritime safety.
