Teen Jailed for Fatal Push that Killed 62-Year-Old in Ealing
A 16-year-old boy, now 17, has been sentenced to 24 months for the manslaughter of 62-year-old Jerald Netto in Ealing. The sentence includes 12 months in custody and 12 months under supervision in the community. The tragic confrontation happened in the early hours of Sunday, March 19.
Deliberate Assault Led to Death
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation, revealed the horrific chain of events started with a juvenile prank that quickly turned violent. “Our investigation showed this tragic event began as a juvenile prank by the defendant and culminated in a deliberate assault resulting in Mr Netto’s death,” Howie said. “There is no excuse for this violence. The defendant was not acting in self-defence—his actions were deliberate and disgraceful.”
In the shocking attack, the teen pushed Mr Netto face-first onto the pavement. The blow caused fatal injuries, with Mr Netto later dying from a hypoxic brain injury caused by a cardiac arrest linked to the fall.
Public Call Police After Discovery
Passersby found Mr Netto collapsed on the pavement and immediately called police. The accused was arrested nearby shortly after the assault. Medical reports confirmed that the death resulted from commotio cerebri — a brain injury from blunt trauma to the head.
Family Plea for Justice and Closure
Mr Netto’s family released a heartfelt statement expressing their devastation:
“Jerald Netto was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, and neighbour. We are left scarred for life. We will never come to terms with what happened to him on that terrible night. In his last moments, he was humiliated, taken advantage of, attacked, and killed by a sadistic criminal. Our lives will never be the same. We miss him every day and will continue to as each day passes without him in our world.”
The family has also called for the full release of CCTV footage capturing the entire incident, including the fatal push, to help them come to terms with their loss and ensure justice is seen through.
