Clapham Shooting Chaos: Police Hunt Gunmen After Shock Moped Chase
Two women were caught in the crossfire during a wild moped chase in Clapham on the evening of March 1. Police are scrambling to track down the suspects responsible for the harrowing shooting.
Shotgun Fired After Moped Crash
Just before 5pm, police spotted a moped speeding through Clapham with two riders who ignored orders to stop. The chase ended abruptly when the moped collided with a 27-year-old man and crashed. The man was rushed to hospital.
In the chaos, one suspect carrying a shotgun dropped the weapon. It accidentally fired as it hit the ground. Two women aged 27 and 36 suffered shotgun pellet injuries but were not deliberately targeted. Both were treated and later discharged from hospital.
Manhunt Underway as Police Follow Every Lead
As of March 4, officers remain on the hunt for the gunmen who fled on foot. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed, though no arrests have been made.
“Our investigation is at an early stage, but we will be relentless in tracking down the two responsible,” said DCI Gemma Alger from Specialist Crime.
Forensic teams are combing the scene on St Alphonsus Road and surrounding gardens where the suspects escaped. The shotgun has been recovered and is undergoing analysis.
Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward
DCI Alger called on anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward, promising increased patrols to reassure the local community.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added, “Enquiries are ongoing and any arrests will be made proactively.”
