Knife Crime Tragedy: CCTV Snags Suspects in Fatal Stabbing
Detectives have cracked a chilling murder case thanks to CCTV footage, identifying suspects linked to the brutal killing of 24-year-old Arpith Mandava. The young man died after a savage fight between two groups in the early hours of October 14, 2022.
From Argument to Tragedy on Beavers Lane
Arpith was fatally stabbed following a row near Beavers Lane. Earlier that night, he suffered wounds to his heart and left arm in Earl Haig Close. Despite emergency treatment, Arpith died on October 27, 2022.
Court Brings Justice: Two Men Convicted
After a hearing at Kingston Crown Court, two men were found guilty for their part in the fatal attack:
- Denis Ivanov: Convicted of murdering Arpith, stabbing another victim, and possessing an offensive weapon.
- Denis Kusins: Found guilty of manslaughter, causing actual bodily harm, and also carrying an offensive weapon.
CCTV Footage Exposes How the Attack Unfolded
Police reviewed footage from a staggering 71 cameras to piece together the deadly sequence of events:
- Arpith and friends were out buying alcohol.
- Two from the group stopped at a shop in Cavendish Parade.
- On returning, they were confronted by the attackers who stole the alcohol.
- A confrontation sparked as Arpith’s group intervened; both groups split up afterwards.
The CCTV caught the crucial moment when Denis Ivanov asked Denis Kusins for a knife. Armed, Ivanov launched the attack that ended Arpith’s life and seriously injured another. The attackers then scattered.
Suspects Attempt Flee, But Detective Work Pays Off
Ivanov was filmed trying to enter a petrol station on Burns Way, leaving a handprint on the glass door that helped identify him.
He fled the UK on October 16 via Eurostar but was caught by French police on October 25 and extradited back. Kusins, who supplied the knife, was arrested earlier on October 22.
Detective Inspector Kevin Martin praised his team’s tireless work: “Our commitment to justice knows no bounds. We will continue to pursue those responsible for such senseless acts.”
