In an impactful display of skill and readiness, two Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU) officers from Sussex Police, alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, delivered critical life-saving assistance in Eastbourne. The officers, already engaged in their duties, swiftly responded to an emergency at Eastbourne Pier, where two men were found unconscious and suspected of cardiac arrest. Their timely CPR intervention was crucial in reviving the patients.
Notably, this life-saving action occurred just 15 minutes following the officers’ involvement in apprehending a suspect for drug-related charges, showcasing their versatility and commitment to public safety. TFU Inspector Oli Fisher emphasised the dual competency of the officers, praising their medical and Police training. “This was a serious medical emergency,” Fisher stated, acknowledging the vital role of firearms officers in emergency medical situations and their continuous impact on public safety.
The day’s events began with a traffic stop on the A259, leading to the seizure of a white BMW due to multiple violations. This traffic stop unveiled the driver’s connection to a 2022 case involving the suspected importation of class A drugs, resulting in his arrest.
The unfolding of these events, culminating in the rapid response at Eastbourne Pier, underscores the multifaceted responsibilities and adaptability of Sussex Police’s armed officers, reaffirming their integral role in community safety and emergency response.
