Two Men in Custody After Police Officer Hit by Car in Sale

Two men are currently in police custody following an alarming incident in Sale, Greater Manchester, where a police officer was deliberately struck by a vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:11 PM on Sunday, May 5, 2024, when officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Beech Road, Sale. Upon arrival, a man deliberately drove over the attending police officer before fleeing the scene.

The injured officer, who sustained a broken ankle, was in and out of consciousness before being transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

A swift response by law enforcement led to the arrest of two suspects, one aged 32, apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder, and another aged 30, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both individuals remain in police custody as the investigation progresses.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Walton, of the Trafford Criminal Investigation Department, expressed profound concern over the targeted attack on the police officer. She commended the quick response of officers and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to their safety.
