Emergency Services Respond to Incident Near Ovingham Bridge in Northumberland

Emergency services are currently attending an ongoing incident near Ovingham Bridge in Northumberland after receiving reports of concern for the welfare of two teenage boys earlier this afternoon.

The incident was reported at around 3:30 pm, prompting a swift response from Northumbria Police, Northumberland Fire and Rescue, the North East Ambulance Service, and other agencies. A large multi-agency presence, including swift water rescue units, ambulance crews, and senior officers, has been deployed to the scene.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed their response, stating, “We dispatched our full Hazardous Area Response Team as well as two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and an officer. We also requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. We are currently still on scene.”

Northumbria Police issued a statement urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to carry out their duties effectively. They requested anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the police via 101, quoting log NP-20240518-0720.
