Brutal Attacker Gets Extra Jail Time After Victim Dies 13 Years Later
Trevor Baker, 53, stationed at HMP Warren Hill, was slammed with a minimum 20-year prison sentence at the Old Bailey on Friday, 31 May. This is for the murder of Carolyn Kemp – a woman he savagely attacked nearly 13 years ago.
Having already served time for attempted murder since 2010, Baker now faces an extra five years and eight months behind bars.
Attack Left Carolyn Kemp Paralysed for Over a Decade
Baker brutally assaulted Carolyn, 34, at his Romford home on Walmer Close on 25 November 2009. The attack followed the breakdown of their relationship, six months after Carolyn broke free from Baker’s grip.
Carolyn was left a quadriplegic with a catastrophic brain injury. Baker pleaded guilty to attempted murder and got a 16-year sentence, with an eight-year minimum.
Tragically, Carolyn died on 24 September 2022 from aspiration pneumonia. Experts confirmed her death was caused by the brain injuries Baker inflicted, linking the assault to her passing after years of suffering.
Baker Finally Charged with Murder
On 5 December 2023, Baker was charged with murder. He admitted guilt at the Old Bailey on 22 March.
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, Met Specialist Crime Command: “Carolyn suffered extreme violence at the hands of Trevor Baker – violence that ultimately resulted in her death following more than a decade of suffering. It’s right he’s held fully accountable for the devastation caused to Carolyn, her family, and friends.”
“Thanks to his guilty plea, Carolyn’s loved ones were spared the trauma of a trial. My thoughts remain with them.”
Heartbreaking Tribute from Carolyn’s Mother
Carolyn’s mother said: “My beautiful daughter Carolyn was the sweetest girl any mother could wish for. She always had a smile that lit up the room.”
“After having her two children, she blossomed into a devoted mum. Nothing mattered more to her than her kids. That precious chance to nurture them was cruelly taken away by that brutal attack.”
“Our family’s pain has never lessened. Carolyn never deserved that awful ordeal, which stretched almost 13 more years before she was gone.”
“We thank the medical team at Queens Hospital who quickly flagged concerns, sparking the investigation that led to justice.”
“Special thanks also to Detective Constable Saggers for her incredible support. Without her, we wouldn’t have made it through.”
“Trevor Baker damaged not just Carolyn, but two innocent children for life. The extra jail time he’s received won’t ever be enough.”
“We believe Baker remains a danger. This conviction must send a strong message to protect other women.”
