Prolific Shoplifter Targets Eltham M&S, Receives Community Order – UKNIP

A notorious shoplifter, Christopher Fawcett, has once again made headlines after targeting the M&S at the BP petrol station on Bexley Road in Eltham.

Fawcett, 41, stole £265 worth of chocolate from the store on October 4 last year. He struck again on February 11 this year, making off with £335 worth of chocolate and prosecco.

This is not Fawcett’s first encounter with the law. In 2019, he was jailed for seven weeks for thefts from a BP petrol station in Chislehurst and The Co-Op at The Oval in Sidcup. Earlier this year, in January, Fawcett stole £90 worth of fish and meat from The Co-Op on Pickford Lane in Bexleyheath, for which he received a conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £90 in compensation.

Fawcett, of Erith Road in Bexleyheath, appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (June 4) to answer for his recent thefts from the Eltham M&S. After pleading guilty to the charges, he was sentenced to a community order.

As part of his punishment, Fawcett has been ordered to pay £300 in compensation and has been banned from the M&S on Crown Woods Way for one year.

Despite his history of shoplifting, Fawcett has managed to avoid another prison sentence, instead receiving a community-based punishment in hopes of curbing his criminal behaviour.
