Major Blaze Hits Walworth Flats – Arson Probe Underway
A huge fire tore through a block of flats on Thurlow Street, Walworth, in the early hours of this morning. London Fire Brigade scrambled ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters to the scene at 12:39am.
Heroic Firefighters Battle Flames on Eighth Floor
Crews from Old Kent Road, Peckham, Dockhead, and nearby stations rushed in to tackle the inferno raging on the eighth floor of the residential building. A 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed to fight the fire from above as thick smoke poured from broken windows.
The London Ambulance Service sent three ambulances and a response officer, alongside HART teams, to assist alongside the fire brigade.
Arson Investigation Launched – No Injuries Reported
Police have confirmed an arson investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the blaze. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
“Our crews acted swiftly and effectively to bring the fire under control. We are now working closely with the Metropolitan Police to determine the cause of the blaze. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.” – London Fire Brigade spokesperson
Residents Evacuated, Police Appeal for Witnesses
Residents from the block were evacuated as a precaution. Local authorities are providing support to those displaced.
