Second Ryanair Pilot Identified in Fatal M62 Crash as Captain Matt Greenhalgh

The second Ryanair pilot killed in a tragic collision on the M62 has been identified as Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, alongside his colleague Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24. The pair were en route to Liverpool Airport when their taxi collided with two lorries around 5:30 AM on Thursday.

Both men died at the scene between Junctions 7 and 8. Greenhalgh, of Stockport, was married and played rugby at Marple Rugby Club, which paid tribute to him. Fernandes, who joined Ryanair in 2022, was a graduate in air transport management from Buckinghamshire New University.

Thousands have been raised on GoFundMe for their families. A 61-year-old lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. The victims’ families are receiving support from specialist officers.
