Chobham Fire Station Redevelopment Faces Delays until Spring 2025

The much-anticipated redevelopment of Chobham Fire Station has been postponed until Spring 2025 due to unforeseen environmental concerns raised during the planning process. This delay, announced by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), comes after the Environment Agency highlighted issues that needed additional attention from Surrey County Council’s Land and Property Team.

Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin expressed disappointment over the unforeseen holdup but reassured the public about the team’s dedication to overcoming these challenges. Our commitment to enhancing the facilities for our firefighters and the Chobham community remains steadfast. We are actively addressing the feedback from the Environment Agency to advance this project as quickly as possible,” Quin stated.

Kevin Deanus, Cabinet Member for Fire and Rescue, and Resilience, echoed Quin’s sentiments, acknowledging the project’s significance to the community. The redevelopment of Chobham Fire Station is vital not just for enhancing operational efficiency but also for building a facility that aligns with modern, environmentally sustainable standards,” Deanus explained. He also thanked the community for its ongoing patience and support during this process.

The redevelopment plans for the fire station include several upgrades aimed at improving service delivery and operational efficiency. These enhancements include better management of operational contaminants and hygiene, new gym facilities to support crew fitness, a community space for engagement, and an additional vehicle bay to boost response capabilities. The design also focuses on eco-friendly and sustainable solutions to minimize environmental impact.

Despite the delay, SFRS remains optimistic about the project’s completion and its future role in supporting both the firefighters and the Chobham community.
