Eastbourne’s Night Safety Marshals Take On Crime and Chaos
Since January 2024, Eastbourne’s new Night Safety Marshals have been out in force, working alongside police to keep the town safe after dark. Rain or shine, they’ve already helped more than 135 vulnerable women and 60 men find their way home, reconnect with friends, or get police help.
Over 30 Medical Incidents and Public Disorder Quelled
The team hasn’t just helped individuals—they’ve also tackled over 30 cases of public disorder, stamping out trouble before it escalates. They’ve responded to around 30 medical incidents, making sure emergency aid gets to those in need quickly. Their patrols have played a key role in slashing weekend crimes tied to Eastbourne’s night-time economy.
On the Streets from 8pm to 4am
Operating Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm to 4am, the marshals cover Eastbourne town centre on foot, keeping an eye on pubs, clubs, and busy streets. They work hand-in-hand with Street Pastors, licensed venue security, and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership to keep the peace.
Police Praise and Public Support
Inspector Sarah Taylor from Eastbourne’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’re grateful to the Night Safety Marshals for helping protect our community from violence and crime, especially during busy weekend nights. Everyone deserves to enjoy a safe night out, and Eastbourne is and will remain that safe place.”
