In a dramatic turn of events in Hayes, emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and National Police Air Service (NPAS), were called to assist in the apprehension of a man who fled from police and took to the roof of a Tesco Express.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, 14 September, when Metropolitan Police officers attempted to arrest the suspect near Tesco Express on Uxbridge Road in Hayes.
The man, trying to evade arrest, climbed four storeys up onto the roof of the building. Officers were unable to reach him, and the man found himself stranded with no escape route.
In a coordinated response involving multiple emergency services, including the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), police worked to ensure the man’s safe removal from the roof. The London Fire Brigade was called in to provide police with access to the rooftop to assist in the arrest.
Officers from the Met Police sharing details of the incident on social media, praised the collaborative effort, stating: “Not every day you see @Ldn_Ambulance, @LondonFire, @hartgroup_org, and @NPASLondon working together to apprehend one individual. We will stop at nothing to keep our communities safe, even if it means taking to the rooftops.
As of now, the man has been arrested for various offences, though further details regarding the nature of the charges remain under investigation.
Authorities confirmed that, although the suspect attempted to evade arrest by climbing the roof, he was eventually apprehended safely without incident.
