Radio DJ and Heart Breakfast presenter Jamie Theakston has revealed he has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer. Theakston shared the news with his fans via Instagram, offering a positive outlook on his condition.
In his Instagram post, Jamie explained that a recent operation to remove a lesion from his vocal cords led to the diagnosis. He wrote, “As you know – I recently had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal cords. The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer.
He continued with an optimistic message: “So…I have cancer…but cancer doesn’t have me! The prognosis is very positive and I hope to be back with you in October.”
For now, Jamie will be resting his voice, with co-hosts JK and Amanda Holden stepping in for him. He expressed gratitude towards his team and the Global Radio family for their support: “Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive.
Jamie’s co-host Amanda Holden took to Instagram to show her support, posting a picture of the two together and writing: “Our wonderful @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer. His prognosis is very good and he has an incredible team around him. Jamie. We love and miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon.
Many of Jamie’s friends and colleagues have shared messages of support, including Carol Vorderman, who said: “Sending best Jamie! Thank goodness your listeners spotted the change in your voice, all found early and you’ll be back keeping everyone happy very soon.” Other well-wishers included Ashley Roberts and footballer Ian Wright, who added, “Get well Jamie x.”
Jamie ended his message on an uplifting note: “Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell.”
Theakston’s fans and colleagues are hopeful for a swift recovery and look forward to his return to the airwaves later this year.
