Tributes Pour In for DJ Danny Stubbs After His Death at Age 40 Following Battle with Rare Cancer

Tributes have flooded in for renowned DJ and music producer Danny Stubbs, who passed away at age 40 following a year-long battle with a rare form of cancer. The father-of-one, from Chell Heath, succumbed to Stage 4 oesophageal adenocarcinoma on August 24, 2024, at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford.

Danny, who began his career DJing at clubs in Hanley in the early 2000s, enjoyed global success, performing at renowned venues like Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound. His career highlights included remixing tracks for U2, Ariana Grande, and working with legendary English DJ Paul Oakenfold. His music is also regularly featured on BBC Radio, earning him recognition far and wide.

Danny was diagnosed with rare and aggressive cancer in August 2023 after initially experiencing symptoms like acid reflux, hiccoughing, and difficulty swallowing. Despite receiving the grim prognosis that his cancer was inoperable, he remained active, continuing to ski, run half marathons, and perform throughout his treatment.

His wife, Danielle Stubbs, 33, described him as “the most beautiful person inside and out.” The couple, who were next-door neighbours before their relationship blossomed during the first lockdown, married on November 24, 2023, just three months after Danny’s diagnosis. Despite his illness, the pair enjoyed a honeymoon in Switzerland, where Danny continued his love of skiing.

Reflecting on their time together, Danielle shared, “He didn’t want to listen to the prognosis, and he wanted to prove to the doctors they were wrong. I know he was fighting to be with me… It’s not fair, but life went this way. It’s hard to think about the future because it’s not the life that we imagined.”

Danny leaves behind his daughter Leah, 19, his brothers Lee, Shaun, and Kenny, and his parents Gary and Angela. His funeral is set to take place in Crewe on Thursday.

In a moving tribute, Danielle added, “Loving Danny, and being loved by him, has and will always be the best thing about this life. I will carry him in my heart every day. I am so grateful for the time we had together… Danny is no longer in pain and at peace now.”

Tributes from friends, family, and the music community continue to pour in, remembering Danny not only for his talent but for the joy and warmth he brought to everyone who knew him. His legacy as an artist and as a beloved husband, father, and friend will live on.
