Man sentenced for causing actual bodily harm during domestic incident

A 28-year-old man from New Milton has been sentenced following a domestic-related assault earlier this year. Jack David Marsden, of Marryat Road, appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, 19 September, where he was handed an 18-month community order. He will also be required to complete a maximum of five rehabilitation activity requirement days and a 30-day accredited programme.

Marsden had previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm during an earlier hearing. The sentencing follows an incident that occurred on 27 June, during which Marsden assaulted the victim at her home, leaving her with cuts, bruises, and swelling to her head, face, and ribs.

Marsden had been remanded in custody since his arrest. The court’s decision to impose a community order instead of a prison sentence reflects the conditions set for his rehabilitation.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on domestic abuse. A spokesperson said, “Nobody—whether a woman, man, or child—should ever be subjected to domestic abuse in an environment they perceive as a safe space. We encourage victims to come forward and report incidents to us, even though we understand how difficult it can be to relive the trauma faced at the hands of an abuser.

The police also emphasised their commitment to stopping individuals who commit domestic abuse, urging anyone who is being abused, or who knows someone that is, to report it immediately by calling 101 or filing a report through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. In emergencies, individuals should dial 999.
