Shocking Blaze Erupts at Popular London Food Market, Vinegar Yard

A shocking video has captured the moment Vinegar Yard, a popular food market in south-east London, was engulfed in flames during a late-night blaze. Emergency services were called to the scene on St Thomas Street, near London Bridge, at around 2:30 AM on Sunday, October 13.

Upon arrival, a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The dramatic footage, sent to the News Shopper, shows flames towering above nearby trees as the market was consumed by the fire. Thick plumes of smoke can be seen rising from the scene, with ash filling the air. Additional footage reveals fire burning in one of the indoor sections of the market.

The following day, a TikTok video showed the aftermath, with a large crime scene cordoned off, multiple police vehicles, and fire engines still present. The venue appears to have suffered significant damage.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident:
“Police were called at 02:27hrs on Sunday, 13 October, to reports of a fire at a venue in St Thomas Street, SE1. Officers responded with the London Fire Brigade. A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson. There were no reports of any injuries. Enquiries continue.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added:
“Firefighters assisted the Metropolitan Police Service with an incident on St Thomas Street in London Bridge. Control Officers received the first of seven calls at 0229 and mobilised two fire engines from Dockhead and Dowgate Fire Stations to the scene.”

Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to assess the damage and determine the cause of the blaze.
