City Firearms Officers Praised for Life-Saving Intervention on London Bridge

City of London Police Firearms officers have been commended for their swift and life-saving response to a man who suffered a cardiac arrest on London Bridge late Monday night, October 21, 2024.

At approximately 11:20 pm, emergency services received a 999 call reporting a man collapsed on the bridge. City of London Police Firearms officers were the first to arrive at the scene, where they found a member of the public attempting to assist the individual. Detecting no pulse, the officers immediately began CPR, taking turns to administer the life-saving procedure.

The officers utilised a defibrillator and continued CPR until the London Ambulance Service arrived. After a prolonged effort, a small pulse was detected, and the man was promptly transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Betts of the City of London Police praised the officers, stating, “The intervention of the six firearms officers was crucial, and I commend them for their actions. The officers’ advanced medical training was vital in being able to secure a pulse and get the man to the hospital.”

The incident highlights the essential role of firearms officers not only in ensuring public safety but also in providing critical medical assistance during emergencies.
