M6 Remains Closed After Fatal Lorry Crash in Lancashire

The M6 motorway remains closed southbound between Preston and Lancaster following a tragic accident that claimed one life and injured several others. The crash occurred yesterday morning when an HGV travelling north veered through the central reservation, colliding with multiple vehicles on the opposite side.

Emergency responders closed the motorway between Junctions 33 and 32 for investigations and emergency repairs. Although the northbound carriageway has partially reopened, with two lanes in operation, the southbound route remains fully closed as crews work to resurface damaged sections. There is currently no estimated time for reopening.

The crash involved two lorries and three cars, and police have yet to release details about the casualties. Motorists are being diverted via the A6, but severe delays persist, with traffic at a standstill southbound near Lancaster and heavy congestion on the diversion route.

Lancashire Police issued a statement advising drivers to plan ahead and expect delays. “The Southbound remains closed at this time as the carriageway needs to be re-surfaced,” they said. “Traffic is still expected to be heavy in this area until the full carriageway reopens.”
