Dover Man Jailed for Sexual Activity with a Child

A man from Dover has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for sexual activity with a child, following an investigation by Kent Police.

The Case

The offence came to light in March 2023, when the victim bravely reported the sexual assault to a friend and later to the police. Investigators identified Anthony Collins, 55, formerly of Maison Dieu Road, as the perpetrator.

Collins was questioned about the offences later that month and subsequently charged. In May 2024, he admitted to the charges in Canterbury Crown Court.

Sentencing

On 22 November 2024, Collins was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The court also imposed an additional four and a half years on licence, meaning Collins will be under supervision upon release to prevent further offences.

Police Statement

Detective Constable Maria Cutter, the investigating officer, praised the courage of the victim, stating:
“The victim in this case showed great bravery in reporting the incident first to a friend and then to police. I am pleased we were able to quickly bring charges, which have led to this dangerous offender being jailed for a considerable period of time.”

DC Cutter encouraged other victims of sexual offences to come forward:
“We will work with you to take the action which is right for you. Coming forward could also help protect others from sexual offenders, or those who pose harm to women and girls.
