The two-storey house had its roof blown clean off as debris scattered across the busy street. Pedestrians fled for their lives as shards of glass and bricks rained down. Nearby vehicles, including a bus, narrowly escaped the wreckage. Eyewitnesses described the blast as “thunderous” with the ground shaking beneath their feet.
Firefighters Battle Fierce Flames
The inferno quickly engulfed the house’s first floor and loft. Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters flooded the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder tackled flames from above while a drone provided crucial aerial footage. Thick smoke billowed for hours before the fire was finally contained at 6.23 PM. Crews remain on-site investigating the cause.

Authorities closed Ley Street between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, causing significant traffic delays. Locals were urged to steer clear while emergency services secured the area.

Station Commander Darren McTernan said: “Crews worked hard to bring this fire under control. Our 32-metre turntable ladder and drone team were invaluable in managing the situation from above. We will remain on scene throughout the evening to ensure the area is safe and to investigate the cause of the fire.”
Metropolitan Police spokesperson: “We were called at 4:08 PM to reports of a residential fire on Ley Street. Cordons are in place while we continue our investigation.”
London Ambulance Service confirmed:
“We responded at 4.13 PM with ambulances, advanced paramedics, an incident response officer, and hazardous area response team members. Three people were treated—two taken to hospital, one discharged at the scene.”
