South-East London Rapist Jailed for Seven Years

A London man has been locked up for seven years after a brutal sexual assault and rape on a woman following a night out in Lewisham.

How the Attack Unfolded

Craig Dorney, 35, from Duncombe Hill, Lewisham, was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on 12 December. He was found guilty of rape and two sexual assault charges relating to an incident in the early hours of 29 June.

The victim, 27, had taken a taxi to Lewisham around 2am when she crossed paths with Dorney, who was stepping out of another cab. He struck up a conversation before violently attacking her. She managed to flee and alert the police.

In a rare twist, the victim-recorded parts of the assault on her phone, providing crucial proof. The Met’s specialist sexual offences team tracked down and arrested Dorney within 24 hours.

Investigators also relied on CCTV footage, forensic reports, witness statements, and testimonies from friends and taxi drivers to build their case.
