Drama in Brixton: Four Rescued from Flat Blaze
Fire crews raced to a flat fire on Acre Lane, Brixton, just before midnight last night. They saved four people, including a man plucked from a second-floor window using a nine-metre ladder.
Heroic Ladder Rescue and Swift Evacuations
The blaze damaged a ground-floor hallway but could have been far worse. Firefighters from Brixton, Clapham, and Peckham arrived with four engines and 25 firefighters. One man was rescued from the second floor via ladder. Meanwhile, two men and a woman escaped through the stairs, aided by fire escape hoods. All four were rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
Fire Escape Hoods: A Life-Saving Gear
These innovative hoods, introduced after the Grenfell Tower tragedy, protect wearers from deadly smoke gases like carbon monoxide for up to 15 minutes. They help both conscious and unconscious victims breathe easier during rescues. If more time is needed, a replacement hood can be issued.
Quick Action Limits Damage
The London Fire Brigade arrived at 11:56 pm and had the fire under control by 1:27 am. Their quick response kept damage to a minimum and ensured everyone got out safe and sound.
Investigation Underway as Cause Remains Unknown
The London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police are investigating the cause of the blaze. Meanwhile, residents are urged to check smoke alarms regularly and know their evacuation routes.
Stay safe and be prepared – it could save your life.
