Tragic Pub Brawl Ends with Fatal Punch in Chichester

A deadly punch outside The Dolphin and Anchor pub in Chichester has shocked the community. David Hallatt, 57, was killed during a chaotic scuffle on June 20, 2024, and now Kieran Egan, 30, from Birmingham, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Fatal Fight Erupts After Pub Ejection

David was enjoying a night out with colleagues when trouble struck. A man known to David was kicked out for violent behaviour. Tensions flared, and amid the turmoil, Egan punched David — an innocent bystander trying to calm things down.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite desperate efforts, David was pronounced dead.

Manslaughter Plea After Murder Charges Dropped

Egan faced murder and affray charges alongside 31-year-old Dyce Barnfield, accused of egging him on. But on January 7, the jury cleared them both of murder. Barnfield was outright acquitted. Egan admitted manslaughter and now waits for sentencing on April 4.

Family Condemns Violence as Community Reacts

“We are devastated by David’s senseless death. The violence must stop,” said the family. They thanked police and paramedics for their swift response and ongoing support.

Detective Constable Elliott Lander called the attack “brazen” and warned of its devastating impact.

Egan remains in custody, bracing for the consequences of a shocking act that has rippled through Chichester.
