Drug Kingpin Derrick Woods Hit with Massive £204K Confiscation Order
15 Years of Crime Comes Crashing Down
Derrick Woods, 41, from Blakeridge Mills, Batley, has been slammed with a £203,940.73 confiscation order by Leeds Crown Court on 16 April 2021. Woods’ criminal career spans over 15 years, starting in 2005 with a five-year sentence for drug trafficking. Just five years later, in 2010, he was handed another decade behind bars for further drug offences.
Caught Red-Handed in 2019
After being released in 2016, Woods was quickly back in trouble. Officers from the Regional Organised Crime Unit nabbed him in 2019 handing over drugs in a Leeds commercial car park. Raids on his flat and two vehicles uncovered a stash of ecstasy pills, amphetamine paste, and a staggering £95,000 in cash stuffed inside a carrier bag.
Locked Up and Now Losing His Loot
Woods was jailed for 14 years in 2020 following his conviction. Now the Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU) has secured a court order demanding he pays back nearly £204,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
If he fails to cough up within three months, an extra 18 months will be tacked onto his prison term.
Detective Inspector Mick Ryan of RECU said, “He was at the heart of a large-scale drug trafficking enterprise across West Yorkshire. This confiscation ensures Woods does not profit from his criminal activities.”
