Four University of Essex Students Killed in Horror Crash
Essex Police have named the four victims killed in a tragic crash in Colchester early Saturday.
Tragedy on Magdalen Street
The fatal collision happened just before 4:40am on 1 February 2025. A car carrying four University of Essex students smashed into a building on Magdalen Street, killing them all at the scene.
The deceased students have been identified as 22-year-old Makyle Bayley, 21-year-old Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 24-year-old Anthony Hibbert, and 22-year-old Daljang Wol. The shockwaves have rippled through the local community and the university.
Police Pay Tribute
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper offered his condolences, saying:
“I want to extend my condolences to the friends and family of Makyle, Eva, Anthony, and Daljang. This will be an incredibly difficult time for them, and we have specialist officers supporting them.”
He also praised emergency crews for their dignity and professionalism at the scene.
Investigation Underway
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is probing the cause of the smash. Officers say no other vehicles are believed to be involved.
Essex Police are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who saw a black Ford Focus in the area around the time of the crash.
