Sheerness Home Shut for Three Months Over Antisocial Behaviour and Drug Use
A property on Clyde Street, Sheerness, has been slammed shut for three months following a barrage of complaints about antisocial behaviour and drug misuse. This latest police crackdown shows no signs of letting up in tackling nuisance hotspots.
Local Residents Fed Up With Chaos
Local cops teamed up with a housing association after multiple reports from fed-up residents about ongoing disorder at the address. Despite repeated police warnings to the tenants, the disruptive and criminal behaviour ran riot, forcing authorities to seek a closure order.
Magistrates Say Enough Is Enough
On Thursday 6 February 2025, Medway Magistrates’ Court granted a three-month closure order under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The property is now locked down with a legal notice slapped on the door warning that any trespassing is a criminal offence, carrying the threat of fines or jail time.
Police Praise Community Action
“This enforcement has been possible thanks to residents raising their concerns with their local constable. Those who have a detrimental impact on the quality of life for communities have to realise there are consequences to this behaviour,” said Inspector Julia Bassindale.
“We are determined to tackle the problem when it arises and will work with council colleagues and other housing providers to respond effectively.”
Residents facing similar issues are urged to alert their local police. Officers continue to push a zero-tolerance stance on disruptive and criminal activities affecting neighbourhoods.
Part of Broader Police Crackdown
This shutdown is part of a wider strategy by Swale police to clamp down on properties linked to crime and nuisance. Locals are encouraged to report drug-related activity, rowdy disturbances, or persistent antisocial behaviour so authorities can take swift action.
