Man Charged Over Brutal Dartford Van Attack
Violent Robbery in Cotton Lane
A man has been charged after a shocking robbery and stabbing in Dartford that left a victim badly injured. The incident unfolded just before 5.45am on Sunday 9 March 2025, when Kent Police were called to reports of an assault on Cotton Lane.
Two off-duty police officers discovered the victim, who said he had been attacked by a passenger in his own van. According to the victim, while driving with the suspect onboard, the man made demands before suddenly launching a violent assault. The attacker then sped off in the victim’s vehicle, leaving him stabbed and stranded without his mobile phone.
Victim Rushed to Hospital and Recovers
Emergency services quickly arrived on scene, and the stabbed victim was rushed to a London hospital for emergency treatment. Fortunately, he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Following a swift investigation, police arrested 26-year-old Michael O’Callaghan of Albert Place, Rochester, on Tuesday 11 March in Sevenoaks. He has been charged with:
- Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
- Robbery
- Possession of a bladed article
O’Callaghan appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 March and has been remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 14 April.
Woman Arrested for Assisting Offender
In a related move, a woman was arrested in Sundridge, Sevenoaks, on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
