Police Issue Warning Ahead of Weekend Football Crowds in London

The Metropolitan Police have announced increased patrols and safety measures in central London and around Wembley Stadium this weekend, as football fans are expected to descend on the capital.

Officers will be deployed throughout the weekend to provide reassurance to the public and respond to any incidents. Fans with concerns are encouraged to speak directly with officers.

In a key change to previous match weekends, Trafalgar Square—often a popular meeting spot for visiting fans—will be closed this Saturday due to preparations for an unrelated event. Authorities are urging fans to make alternative plans in advance.

While police acknowledge that many supporters will want to enjoy their time in the city, they have issued a clear warning against antisocial or disorderly behaviour. “Officers will intervene swiftly if celebrations cross the line,” a police statement said.

Dispersal orders will be in effect across Westminster and the Wembley area, giving officers the authority to remove individuals acting in a disruptive manner.

Additionally, Brent Council will enforce a no-street-drinking zone on Olympic Way and surrounding areas near Wembley Stadium. A Public Space Protection Order is also in place across much of Westminster, including Covent Garden, allowing police to confiscate alcohol from individuals behaving disorderly.

Authorities are urging fans to respect the rules and help ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend for everyone.
