A targeted road safety operation in East Ham has resulted in the seizure of multiple illegally modified electric bikes and a scooter, as part of a wider effort by local police to improve public safety and deter crime.

Officers from the East Ham policing team conducted the operation in recent days, focusing on clamping down on unsafe and non-compliant electric vehicles being used on public roads.

During the operation, five electric bikes and one scooter were seized for not meeting legal safety standards. Officers also conducted visibility patrols throughout the area, helping to deter other criminal activity, including shoplifting and robbery.

Strong Community Reassurance

A police spokesperson said:

“This operation not only tackled road safety concerns linked to illegally modified electric bikes and scooters, but also provided a highly visible police presence that helped deter other offences in the area. We want to send a clear message—safety and compliance on our streets is a priority, and we will continue to take enforcement action where necessary.”

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to tackle anti-social behaviour, reduce crime rates, and ensure that roads remain safe for all users.

Continued Enforcement

Officers say similar operations will continue in the coming weeks as part of ongoing community policing efforts. Residents are encouraged to report any concerns about unsafe or illegal vehicle use in their neighbourhoods.

Anyone with information about road safety violations or criminal activity in the East Ham area can contact police on 101, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
