Two arrested after Birmingham shop raid uncovers illegal vapes, fake tobacco and deadly weapons
‘Rambo-style’ knives and fake fags seized in Kings Heath store
Police swooped on a general store in Kings Heath, Birmingham, and arrested two suspects after uncovering a stash of illegal disposable vapes, counterfeit tobacco, and deadly weapons including a huge “Rambo-style” knife and a dagger.
The raid took place just before 11am on Thursday, March 20, at the store on King’s Road. Officers worked with the council’s trading standards team following a tip-off about suspected illegal trading.
£400,000 cash and Class A drugs found in follow-up raids
After arresting a 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, police searched their homes. That haul included around £400,000 in cash and suspected quantities of cannabis and cocaine.
Sergeant Kasey Corbett of the Brandwood neighbourhood policing team said:
“We really appreciate it when people take the time to contact us about suspected criminal activity in their area – it shows that people trust us to act. As part of our ongoing investigation, the suspected illegal vapes and drugs will be analysed by experts.”
Illegal vapes break UK law and put public health at risk
Trading standards confirmed many seized disposable vapes break UK regulations, which cap tank capacity at 2ml (about 650 puffs). Products exceeding this limit often contain unsafe levels of nicotine and should never be sold in the UK.
Officials warned these rogue vapes frequently miss vital safety checks, posing serious health dangers for users unsuspecting of their risks.
Serious charges as suspects released on bail
The accused face multiple allegations including:
- Handling stolen goods
- Money laundering
- Possession of offensive weapons
- Supplying Class A and B drugs
- Acquiring criminal property
Both suspects are currently on bail while the joint police and trading standards probe continues.
