Man Arrested After Deadly Worksop House Blast
A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder as police probe a fatal explosion that levelled a terraced home in Worksop. The blast, which happened on the evening of Saturday, 12 April, claimed the life of 53-year-old David Howard.
Major Explosion Shakes John Street
Emergency services rushed to John Street at 7.39pm after reports of a huge blast that completely destroyed one house and damaged neighbours. Firefighters, police, and paramedics declared a major incident at the scene.
Despite heroic efforts, David Howard was pronounced dead on site. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.
Investigation Underway – Arrest Made
Nottinghamshire Police arrested a man linked to the tragedy but he has since been bailed while inquiries continue. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, leading the investigation, said:
“Our thoughts remain with David’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“While we’ve made an arrest, the investigation is still at an early stage. We’re doing everything possible to uncover what caused this heartbreaking incident.
“It’s too soon to confirm any criminal involvement. We urge the public to avoid speculation.”
Blast Cause Still a Mystery
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Forensic teams and structural engineers continue to examine the wreckage. A cordon stays in place around John Street and will be for several days.
Residents described the explosion as “like a bomb,” with the shockwave shaking nearby homes. Around dozens were evacuated, finding refuge in community centres or staying with friends and family.
