Girl, 7, Found with Knife on Southampton Street After Allegedly Threatening to Stab Children

A seven-year-old girl was found on a residential street in Southampton carrying a knife and allegedly threatening to stab other children, Hampshire Police have confirmed.

The alarming incident unfolded around 4.25pm on Monday (14 April) on Studland Close, prompting a swift response from officers following reports from concerned members of the public.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

“We were called at 4.25pm yesterday afternoon to a report that a girl had been seen on Studland Close in possession of a knife.

Officers attended and located the girl, who is seven years old, and returned her home. Follow-up work will be done with her parents.

Nobody was injured as a result of this incident.”

Community Shock

The incident has sparked concern in the local community, with residents expressing shock that a child so young could be involved in such a serious situation.

One nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said:

“It’s heartbreaking and terrifying. You don’t expect to hear something like this in your own street, let alone involving such a young child.”

Safeguarding Measures

No arrests have been made, but the case is expected to be referred to social services and safeguarding teams, who will assess the child’s welfare and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police confirmed that the matter is being treated with sensitivity due to the girl’s age. Under UK law, children under the age of 10 are not legally considered criminally responsible, though interventions can still be made to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the child and others.

Ongoing Support

Authorities have assured the public that follow-up work will be undertaken with the girl’s parents and appropriate agencies.

Anyone with additional information or concerns is urged to contact Hampshire Police via 101, quoting the incident on 14 April, Studland Close.
