Devastating Dover Fire Leaves Over 40 Families Homeless
A horrific blaze ripped through a Dover block of flats over Easter weekend, leaving more than 40 people, including dozens of children and vulnerable residents, homeless. Maya’s Community Support Centre has launched an urgent appeal for help as families face the unimaginable loss of their homes and possessions.
Maya’s Centre Calls for Vital Donations
The fire displaced 42 families who lost everything. Known for its grassroots efforts across Kent, Maya’s Community Support Centre is now begging locals to donate essential items to help victims start over.
Here’s what’s needed urgently:
- New underwear and socks (all sizes)
- Children’s and adult clothing and shoes
- School uniforms (any size)
- Toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, bath towels
- Household essentials: bedding, blankets, rucksacks, handbags, phone chargers
- Stationery: notebooks, pens, colouring books, pencils
- Treats for children: Easter eggs, sweets, brand-new toys
“We are here for you, Dover. Let’s come together and show these families they are not alone. Even a small donation could mean the world right now,” the centre said on social media.
Where and When to Donate
Donations can be dropped off at Unit 3, Herne Bay West Industrial Park, Sea Street, Herne Bay CT6 8JZ. The centre will be open Monday from 9am to 3pm to receive aid.
A second urgent needs list is expected on Tuesday afternoon as officials assess ongoing requirements.
Free Delivery to Those in Need
Thanks to Asta Movers Removals & Storage, all donated goods will be delivered free of charge to the families affected by Monday afternoon.
Community members are urged to follow Maya’s Community Support Centre on social media for updates on drop-off details and future appeals.
