Two men have been arrested after swift action by Thanet neighbourhood officers led to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected stolen goods near Sittingbourne.

Incident Overview

On the afternoon of Thursday, April 24, 2025, staff at a store in Westwood Road, Broadstairs, reported suspicious behaviour from a customer. After promptly reviewing CCTV footage, Kent Police officers identified a suspect vehicle linked to the incident.

The vehicle was later intercepted by officers in a layby on the A249, near Sittingbourne.

Items Recovered

During a search of the car, officers recovered a significant haul of suspected stolen items, including:

  • Electronic goods
  • Clothing
  • Pet accessories
  • Hair products
  • Tools

Both men in the vehicle were arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

Charges and Court Proceedings

  • Darren Jarman, 44, of Bideford Road, Bromley, London, has been charged with theft and going equipped to steal.
  • A second man, aged 47 and from Minster-on-Sea, has been bailed pending further investigation.

Mr. Jarman appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 26, where he was remanded in custody. His case is scheduled to be heard next at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on June 5.

“The fast actions of neighbourhood officers have led to the successful recovery of a large quantity of suspected stolen property and the arrest of two individuals. We continue to urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour to help us tackle theft and crime within our communities.
