Dublin Drug Bust: Two Men Remanded Over €1.6m Heroin Seizure

Two men have been remanded in custody after Gardaí seized €1.6 million worth of heroin during a major operation in Dublin, allegedly connected to a transnational criminal organisation.

Oliver Etienne, 44, a graphic designer originally from England but living in Barcelona, and Christian Munoz Sanchez, 34, also from Barcelona, were arrested on 2 May during a targeted operation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).

Court Appearance and Bail Denial

The pair appeared before Judge Aine Clancy at Dublin District Court today.

Mr Etienne sought bail, arguing that he had only travelled to Ireland for a trip with his co-accused, sharing a room at the Clayton Hotel in Liffey Valley. He denied the charges, but Judge Clancy ruled that he posed a flight risk and denied his bail application.

Meanwhile, Mr Sanchez has deferred his bail application, planning to rely on an EU directive that allows defendants to sign on at police stations in their home country while awaiting trial.

Gardaí Crack Down on Drug Trafficking

The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown by Gardaí on organised drug trafficking networks operating across borders.

Investigations are ongoing, and the two men are expected to reappear in court at a later date.
