Two Israeli Embassy Staff Killed in DC Shooting Near Jewish Museum; Suspect Yelled ‘Free Palestine’

A deadly shooting near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. has claimed the lives of two Israeli embassy staff members, U.S. officials confirmed on Wednesday. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, has been labelled an act of anti-Semitic terrorism by authorities.

Gunman Reportedly Shouted Political Slogan

Eyewitnesses reported that the shooter shouted “Free Palestine!” before opening fire. The gunman was quickly apprehended by law enforcement, and his identity has not yet been publicly released. The motive remains under investigation, though authorities are exploring links to politically motivated hate crime.

The FBI, Washington Metropolitan Police, and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was reportedly on the scene in an advisory role, are leading the response. A significant law enforcement presence remains in place, with cordons around the Capitol Crossing area and nearby streets.

Casualties and Emergency Response

In addition to the two fatalities, several others were injured and transported to local hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown. Emergency responders, including medics and Homeland Security officials, arrived within minutes.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the attack occurred on embassy grounds or while the staff members were off-site. The Israeli Embassy has not yet issued an official statement.

Officials Condemn ‘Terrorist Attack’

U.S. and Israeli officials have strongly condemned the violence. One senior D.C. official called it “a cowardly and targeted act of hate.” Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle expressed shock, and calls have intensified for heightened security at Jewish and Israeli institutions nationwide.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said in a statement:

“This horrific act appears to be a targeted, anti-Semitic assault and underscores the growing threats facing Jewish communities globally.”

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities are currently questioning the suspect and have not ruled out international ties or extremist affiliations.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the intelligence analysis, and surveillance footage from the Capital Jewish Museum is being reviewed.

Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact MPD at (202) 727-9099 or the FBI tip line.
