Hero RNLI Crew Member Dies Saving Lives at Sea

Tributes are pouring in for Kevin Clark, a 37-year-old RNLI crew member from Dover, who tragically died in April while responding to a medical emergency at sea. His colleagues and community remember him as a courageous, selfless hero who gave his life doing what he loved most.

Brave Lifeboatman with a Stellar Rescue Record

Kevin joined Dover Lifeboat Station in 2019 and quickly became a vital part of the team. Over nearly 400 hours of operational duty, he took part in 184 rescue missions, directly saving 55 lives. His dedication and skill made him a legend among his peers.

Family Man and Crew Pillar

A devoted husband and father, Kevin was known for his quiet humility and a sharp sense of humour that lifted spirits even in the darkest moments. A Dover RNLI spokesperson said:

“Kevin passed doing what he loved most; in the service of others. He was the heart of our crew—brave, skilled, and always ready to bring a smile, even in a storm.”

Private Farewell, Public Outpouring

Kevin was laid to rest in a private ceremony on May 19. Later, friends and family gathered for a heartfelt celebration of life at the Best Western Dover Marina Hotel. He leaves behind his wife Zara and young son Finley.

His memory has sparked widespread community support, raising over £1,300 in his name to boost Dover RNLI’s lifesaving efforts.

Honoured at Buckingham Palace & Forever Remembered

In 2024, Kevin was invited to Buckingham Palace for the RNLI’s bicentenary. There, he received a Velum of Thanks for a daring rescue on 14 December 2022 involving a sinking vessel in rough seas.

Off-duty, Kevin was an Arsenal fanatic and a loyal friend. His colleagues describe him as “an anchor in every shout.” One tribute summed it up perfectly:

“To those he leaves behind, he will always be our yellow welly-wearing hero.”
